DIY Household Cleaners

Processed with VSCO with m5 preset

For the last two months, I have been making some major changes at home when it comes to cleaning and what I use to clean my home.
I used to use anything and everything to scrub my shower, sink and toilet but would notice immediately after that my face would start burning. Even when I used gloves and extreme caution while cleaning, I couldn’t help but feel irritated. The last time I deep cleaned with household favorites, I looked at the mirror while wiping it down and noticed the allergic reaction spreading across my face.

I stopped using the cleaning products for the day and tried my best to treat my face.
It took almost three weeks for my face to clear up and in between that time, I came across the documentary Stink.”

I realized that maybe the toxins in the cleaning products I used were contributing to the bad allergic reactions I kept having.
I read many blog posts and read several books and articles on this subject and I decided to ditch the current chemical filled products I had and switch to natural and chemical free products with nothing more than just vinegar, baking soda and a few essential oils.

Of course you could go and buy chemical free products but since I monitor my spending well, I don’t mind making my own concoctions.
With a few trials and errors, these are my favorite DIY Household Cleaners:

  • 2 cups of vinegar
  • 10 drops of Lemon Essential Oil
(Place vinegar and drops in a bowl and let produce soak for 5-10 minutes, drain, rinse and dry.)

Eucalyptus Toilet Cleaner:

  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • 1/2 cup of vinegar
  • 10 drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil
(Drop everything in the toilet and watch it fizz! Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then scrub and flush.)

Toothbrush Holder Cleaner:

  • 1 cup of vinegar
  • 1 cup of hot water
  • 10 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil
(Place in toothbrush holder, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and then rinse.)

While I know everyone doesn’t have sensitive skin like me, I wanted to share these natural methods of keeping your home clean. It helps me to cleanse my home and cleanse my body.

Do you use any natural cleaning products? Do you make your own cleaning products?
Leave a comment and let me know what works best for you!

Yours truly,
