A sister at my hall, along with her daughter and son-in-law, decided to host a dinner party for our dear faithful, older, and infirm brothers and sisters today.

I was asked a month in advance if I’d like to participate in the event and I gladly said yes. I was asked to be a part of the waiting staff, and while I’ve never been an actual waitress, I couldn’t turn down the offer.

A few weeks before the dinner, I was also asked if I could help with the decorations.

The dinner was held in our local library in their event room.

There was a choir welcoming the brothers and sisters in as we guided them to their seats.
After two songs sang by the choir, one of the brothers opened with a prayer and we then began to start serving drinks and a light salad.

After the salad, we served the main course which was beef stroganoff with a side of green beans and a roll.
In between the brothers and sisters eating, I made a mix CD of some oldies that were my grandmothers favorite while growing up and played the music to entertain our guest and I was so shocked to see them actually singing along, moving in their seats, and even getting up to dance!
Younger & older ones ran to the floor to do the, “Boot Scoot’n Boogie,” once they heard it play.

After everyone sat down to take a break from dancing, we served dessert which was peach cobbler & a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The sister who was hosting the dinner stood up to say a few words and read a few of the elders experiences and favorite scriptures. The longest serving brother with us was one who had been serving Jehovah faithfully for over 60 years.

Before we ended our dinner party, those who helped with making everything possible, were asked to go to the front of the room to be introduced and to sing one final song to our guest.

It was a very emotional song and a few individuals at the tables cried, and even I cried. It was a very heart warming moment.

Before our guest left, we handed out gift bags with goodies and trinkets to keep to remember this special day.

We thanked them all for attending and hugged as much as possible on their way out.

It was truly a pleasure to participate in this dinner and the most rewarding thing of it all, was to see the smile and feel the love from each individual we catered to.

If you can go out of your way to care for the elderly, even in the slightest aspect, please do so because you never know how much they appreciate your presence.
